As we’re starting to see the sun peak through the clouds a little bit more, we need to protect our hair! We always think of protecting our skin, but almost always forget to protect our hair from those UV rays.
What can you do to protect your hair?
- Try a hat! Most hats provide 100% UV protection. But of course what isn’t under the hat won’t be protected.
- Although some shampoos and conditioners claim to be UV protecting, most of the product is rinsed off. That won’t do the trick! Don’t be fooled that it will.
- Stylist products on the other hand (such as leave-in conditioners that are sprayed directly onto the hair out of the shower, heat protectants, hairsprays, etc.), are available with SPF.
If you want to go that extra step, you could also apply an SPF protector directly onto your scalp where you part your hair, this area is vulnerable to the sun and could also peel.
When you’re not in the sun, it’s also very important to keep your hair moisturized! Try deep conditioning treatments every so often to maintain moisture in your hair and prevent further damage.
Taking some preventative steps like these will help you avoid sun-related problems with your hair, steering clear of damage repair later.
